New Year's Resolutions for your Lawn

Are you looking for a healthier, greener lawn in 2016? Here are six resolutions to help you achieve your goal. 

1. I will not over water.

Most of the time, rain takes care of the grass. During growing season, aim for about an inch of water on your lawn every week unless you are watering new sod

2. I will aerate.

Aerating adds small holes to your lawn, opening up the soil to water, nutrients and oxygen to get to the roots. Fall is the best time to aerate. 

3. I will overseed.

Many forget this step, but it is an important part of the healthy lawn equation. Overseeding fills in damaged areas and produces an overall thicker turf.  

4. I will fertilize.

Make sure you are giving your lawn the nutrients it needs.    

5. I will prevent weeds and pests.

The best way to do this is by to apply a pre-emergent treatment, stopping weeds before they ever come up.   

6. I will not cut no more than 1/3 off the top of my grass. 

Longer grass encourages deep root development and prevents the sun from reaching weed seeds.
