What Services Do I Need?

Like most home owners, you don’t have the time nor the expertise to do it all. Your outdoor spaces can be a bit overwhelming to take care of properly, especially if you have a sizable lot. So, how do you determine which services to outsource and which to do yourself? We’ll give some tips that will help you decide!

Every lawn is different, but there are constants to consider when thinking of hiring a professional and services can vary from company to company. We’ll talk about our various services to help you decide which ones you may need.

Lawn Treatment Program

If your lawn is more weeds than grass, consider hiring a professional. The answer could be to rip out the grass (and weeds) and start over. But most lawns can be brought back from the brink of disaster by starting a treatment program. Although immediate results will occur, it will take up to three years of consistently treating your lawn to get rid of the majority of weeds. However, we have reports from customers that major improvements happen within the first year!

If a lawn treatment service promises an immediate weed free lawn, you’re probably talking to the wrong professional. If you’d rather not spend the time and energy to treat your lawn, consider hiring a professional.

Your time is valuable! Consider the time required to research products, going to purchase the products, then applying them. That is all time that could be spent playing with your children or having a cookout with friends!

Aeration and Overseeding

In a previous blog post, we talked about DIY aeration. It is possible to aerate your own lawn, but is it worth the time? Equipment like a rake or aeration shoes will do the job adequately, but you’ll see better results with an aeration machine, which will pull plugs out of the dirt making room and allowing the soil to breath. The other methods just make holes and push the soil to further compact it.

Some reasons to consider aeration and over-seeding:

  • Do you see bare spots in your lawn?
  • Do you see brown or dead spots?
  • Do you have compacted soil?
  • Do you want to introduce a new grass variety into your turf?

Keep in mind, fall is the best time to aerate and overseed. Pure Green is more than happy to answer questions about the process and advise on the best course of action.

Flea, Tick, and Mosquito Treatment

Bugs! You can’t get rid of them all nor do you want to! A healthy amount of bugs and critters are essential to promote a balanced eco-system for grass and trees to thrive. However, some home owners experience an uncomfortable amount of the “annoying” bugs like fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.

These bugs make it hard for you and your pets to enjoy outdoor spaces. If you have children and pets that frequently trounce in and out of your home, consider having this treatment done in spring or summer!

Tree & Shrub Care

Your home is most likely your largest investment! This includes the your lawn and especially the landscaping. Gorgeous trees and shrubs will add value to your home and unsightly landscaping will decrease the value. But what can a homeowner do? Treat them the same way you treat grass. Give them special nutrients and protection through the year to keep them looking beautiful and healthy!

Consider a tree and shrub treatment program especially if they show the following signs:

  • Overwhelming amount of insects, boring insects especially
  • If the bark starts changing color and falling off
  • If leaves turn yellow or branches dying off from the ends
  • Look for physical damage to the trunk including lightning strikes, fallen branches, cuts across the trunk, or insect holes.

Selecting the right services can be a challenge. Most importantly, select the right company that will work with you and your needs to come up with the treatment program that suites your family. See our guide here on how to best choose the right lawn care company!
