Weeds That Look Like Grass

These weeds do all in their power to camouflage themselves into your turf. The problem is, they aren’t grass and you don’t want them in your lawn. Here are some weeds that look like grass that you should be looking out for.

Annual Bluegrass

This is one of the most problematic lawn weeds. Annual Bluegrass, commonly referred to as Poa, is a grassy weed that grows best in cool, moist environments. It is especially a problem in home lawns where it can grow beneath trees or in wet, shady areas. The patches will die and leave bare spots when the weather turns dry and hot.

Crabgrass

Crabgrass is one of the most common and invasive grass weeds. This weed sprouts in late spring, when the temperatures are consistently above 70 degrees and the soil temperatures rise. Crabgrass typically grows in areas where the soil is thinner, such as along sidewalk and driveway edges.

Nutsedge

Nutsedge is one of the more frustrating grassy weeds because it is stubborn and grows rather rapidly. The weed loves moist areas that can remain wet from poor drainage or too much irrigation. It is important to work on weed control with these guys before their nutlets form because several new plants can grow from a single nutlet and they can remain in the soil.
